Hi Peggie, my H27 1979 35 gal water tank (new to me) has a coating of slimey whitish/clear coating that I think is up to 1/8 inch in some places. Thank is painted zinccromate out side and is rated for fuel according to placard but is piped for water..last used don't know but had about 10 gal. in it and no leaks. Could it be pressure washed to make usable not drinking but other? Could it be the tank metal? I'm thinking it may be aluminium do to cromemate paint. Other option make it waste tank and place bladder tanks under each sink for potable water. I have pressure tested it to 15 psi it held . I have room since boat is spartan and not used for cruising....cheers fank

I have no idea what it is...

But I wouldn't try to use it for "non potable" water, 'cuz we ingest a lot of more the water out of the tap than we think we do...wash our hands, pick up a sandwich...wash your face or shower, water gets on our lips...rinse out a cup and then fill it with bottled water...wash dishes. So if you're not sure that coating is food grade, I wouldn't use the tank for water holding.

And...I'm pretty sure you can replace the tank for less money and effort than it would cost to put bladders under the sinks and plumb 'em in. Check out Ronco Plastics Ronco Plastics The make TOP quality water and waste tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes and sizes, over 100 of which are non-rectangular...and they install fittings in the sizes and locations specified by the customer when they make the tank.

The sbo.com store is now a Ronco tank dealer, and they discount Ronco's already low prices...so find the tank you need in their drawings..make a copy of that drawing and indicate your fittings locations and sizes on it...then call Dave in customer service at sbo.com to order it.

Since you have plenty of room, you can pick a tank to fit the same space or another space...convert the existing tank to waste holding... lots of options here that shouldn't cost you much at all.
