hello, anybody knows what the white powder is on my old diesel? It seems to be on a bunch of the engine component seals like the air breather case, the head, the zinc case. It's become more pronounced in the colder weather. There's no liquid leaking anywere, just this build-up of (probably corrosive)white powder. Thanks!

Salt?

...might it be a buildup of salt from a leak you cannot find...

white power on parts of the engine

The power you discribe might be galvanic action. Check to make sure you're zinks are in good shape and that you have enough of them. Also I bet you keep you boat in a marina or in a bay with a lot of docks with electric power to them. Stan Hansen

aluminum salts?

find it now and again on old bikes in the carbs and engine parts, not always on the metal, sometimes on the rubber and other parts of the bike, not exactly sure what causes it. usually where there are two or more metal types in close proximity. Ken.
