Hey guys, I recently had to do some fiberglass repair job that turned out to work out pretty good. Problem is that I havent painted it and its that yellowy color. I was at a hardware store and was looking at Rust-O White enamel, but I guess that for fiberglass decks there must be something special. Is there an exact brand or paint I should use for the deck? Its a small job, like 3 inches in diameter. (Had to fix the hole where the mast light conector is set up.) Tanx Carlitos Martina H26

Tint the resin

The best way to make the repair match is to tint the fiberglass resin with a coloring agent. You can pick tubes of the pigment up at West Marine. I've done it several times on battle scars on the dingy that I race. It won't wear off like paint will.

gelcoat

If you tint regular repair resin, it will come out with a yellow tint. You can buy small quantity gelcoat resin at most of the big boat suppliers. r.w.landau If you go the gelcoat way, take a minute in the store to read the other things you will need. Gelcoat is a bit different than normal repair resin.

Cheaper

I know this contradicts the fact that we expect all fiberglass repairs to be expensive but a friend that has his Catalina 30 tied up near us did some fiberglass repairs a few years ago near his bow pulpit and he finished it off by finding some aerosol paint that matched the color of his gelcoat. From my untrained eyes I couldn't see where the repair was when he was done. I imagine if you screw up with paint you could always scrub it off with laquer thinner or acetone.
