Whit Lock Steering

We have a 2000 Beneteau 361 and a Whitlock steering unit on ...
we would like to stow the wheel when we are in port. but it does not come off the mount.... i took off the shaft screw and the nut but it does not move.... any help or advise would be appreciated....thankx :confused:

It is a straight shaft and may require the use of a wheel puller. Once you get it off, apply grease, liberally, before replacing it and removal should be easy the next time. Caution: cushion the jaws of the puller or they will mar the surface of the wheel hub and place a nut or bolt over the center hole so the internal threads aren't damaged by the pulling screw.

I solved the problem by buying a folding wheel. It really opens up the cockpit.

On my B46 there is a slot & key in the shaft. I had my both of my wheels off this past weekend. Remove the nut and pull firmly - the wheel should come free. Maybe a couple of raps with a rubber mallet if necessary.

My 310 has a keyway also. Careful you don't lose the key and a sparre in the parts box is a good idea.
