Whit Lock Steering System

A cry for help amidst the raging storms of easter. I am not certain but I think I have a Whit Lock Cobra 6R or Delux wheel steering system on my L356 2003. I want to take it apart and service it this year for a number of reasons. Just for the hell of it; To know how it all works so I am more confident in an emergency; I am supposed to maintain it annually, i think, and lastly because the friction brake does not work at all. I tighten up the spining knurled nut on the front but nothing happens. This is annoying! How can you help? Does anyone please have an installation/Service manual for the system. One with a detailed exploded view would be great. I understand that Whit Lock was bought out by Lewmar in 2001 but their web site does not appear to have the information I require. Any help appreciated. leon

I've got a so-so copy

Leon, email me your address via this site and I'll send you a copy of what I've got-I think I can make a readable copy.... the only planned maintenance is regular anti-seizing of the screws that hold the top cover plate to the pedastel-and if it hasn't been done you risk shearing off the screws because they are stainless into aluminum..

you're welcome!

hope it helps! the only major maintenance issue I've encountered is the screws that hold the flat console base to the pedastel-SS into aluminum, very bad. you should carefully remove them every year and apply anti-seize, or you'll never get them off if you need to. otherwise, it's maintenance free-no cables to break or slacken.
