If it's only hand tight it is very unlikely that the standing rigging is making the noise. It is much more likely that there is a hole in the mast or a spreader and the wind is whistling over it, just like blowing over the top of a beer bottle.

By the way, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, I love it.

slap slap is sound of breaking equipment. the whistling is the wind in the shrouds. will do that no matter how ye tune the rig. is spozed to whistle. is NOT spozed to slap.
