I've often thought of buying a Whisker Pole, but the prices for them are ridiculously high. I've taken my 12' telescopic boat pole and tied the handle to my mast and used it for a Whisker Pole, but a whisker Pole can be made a heck of a lot cheaper than you could buy them in a marine store today. All you need is the extrusions and the pole, and both can be made. Chuck Rothert on this forum picked up some bronze or brass extrusions somewhere, and had this old German cabinet maker in Toledo Ohio turn out a pole made out of Sassafras on his lathe. Chuck put together a spinnaker Pole that would knock your eyes out. It's like a fine piece of furniture. I'm almost certain that a decent usable Whisker Pole could be made out of a telescopic boat pole. I don't know why the people who manufacture "Sure-Hold" haven't made Whisker Pole extrusions available to the sailors yet. The brushes, fish gaff, crab net, fish net, and boat hooks are available for the Sure-Hold handles with extensions. Hint, hint, hint. Do you suppose they are listening?Joe
