I was looking for information on using a whisker pole with the Doyle 110 Jib on my 240. Has anyone done this? Does it help the downwind performance of the boat? This my first boat and any help is appreciated.

works for me!
I am using a twist lock pole from West marine. If you have their 2001 master catalog you can find it on page 964. Mine is the ADJ-6-12 for $89.99. This is a light duty pole but I don't think you want much more for a 240. I am sailing on Lake Wawasee in Indiana if you ever are in this area give me a call and we will take the boat out!

SAME GOOD EXPERIENCE
John, We purchased the same Whisker Pole mentioned by Reinhold and it worked great. It was easy to install the mast eye. It did wonders for our down wind speed and ease. Didn't have to keep watching the jib dance around. Money well spent.. Charlie (Good Medicine)

I installed one this summer for the local Wed night races. I can't email any pictures because the boat is put away for the winter. Very easy installation and did wonders for down wind speed. We race in a non spinaker class. To install I unfurled the jib, attached the pole to the clew of the jib, marked where the pole was perpindicular on the mast. Drilled the holes in the mast for the ring and attached with rivots.

They make a small eye bracket that fits a mast (the base is curved). You would rivet that on (no screws if there are lines inside the mast). Mount it on the mast at the height that would make the pole horizontal when in use. Then I installed a pole clip about 3 or 4 feet above the bracket – so the whisker pole just snaps in place on the front of the mast when not in use. It helps performance somewhat, but really reduces frustration when keeping the sails wing-in-wing.

Centerboard also
I forgot to mention the centerboard in my previous post. Pull it up 1/2 to 3/4 on a run. You will make up some time on a keel boat. I have my centerboard line marded at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full down so it can be adjusted during races. If just day sailing don't mess with it alot and leave it all the way down. That is unless another boat starts heading on my same point of sail in which case it becomes a race which frustates my wife to no end.
