Am thinking of buying a Forespar whisker pole. It is a 2 inch diameter extendable 7 to 15 feet twistlock. Does anyone have any experience with this product? Any other options? Suggestions? thanks in advance.

Sounds like the one I have (around $150?). Works well, sometimes will slip and shorten if you dont do a good job locking the pole. It is barely enough pole for my boat though. I really could use a heavier pole for most any time it is extended past about 10-12 feet, as it will sag in the middle, and I just know it will break someday if I am not careful to not overload it.

I am using the mobile app now so I can't see what size boat you have, but if it is smaller than mine it should work well, if only a little larger, dont extend past 12ft and it will probably be alright.

Forespar lists a pole like that as "25' boat max", and it sells for between $425 and $500 at Forespar.

I don't get what it is about whisker poles that makes them so high priced.

I did see one on Seattle Craigslist the other day.

Forespar lists this particular whisker pole (part #407101) for boats up to 30 feet, which mine is. On-line prices from Defender, etc are $350 to $400.

That should work fine for you then. I have a smaller size #406000. For some reason in my pre-caffene state this morning I confused the two... I need to upgrade mine to the 407101, but I had a chance to get the 406000 for about $60, and had more important things to spend the extra $ at the time.
