hit a good 7+ kts over ground in good strong wind beamy kind of reach ... not all that uncomfortable for a helmsman guest who was able to handle it OK first time.Only time you really have to use a wisker pole is when racing. And then if it really gets rough the 2 in. wisker poles they recommend aren't really that strong. If you're not into racing ... genaker it. you can even wing out the genaker ... and it is a great sail if you are cruising and need to cover some distance and the wind is right.And the extra nice thing is that it is a down wind back up sail ... like today when one of the halyard cleats on the roller furling pulled away from the foil and the other didn't look too good so we packed in the jib.
