Whisker pole transport

I am in search of a whisker pole for my Benetau 321.Have not found a used one, (yet).
West Marine has it, will ship to store but won't ship to our two local stores.
Defender wants $567 for shipping.
Found a company in Canada, very nice and professional they could send it to New York and I would pick it up when I go there in two weeks.
Question-does anyone know if this can this be checked in on a plane as luggage?

Check with the airline, they carry all kinds of stuff, skis, pole vaulting poles, golf clubs, etc. If you are going to be in NY, check with Defender about ship to store. Defender is not far from NY City. They might have it boxed for you too.

When you call the airline, make sure you know the dimensions, weight, and how it will wrapped.

As much as I fly, I have seen some really weird stuff show up at the baggage claim. I am sure you can get an airline to carry it. The question is what will they charge you to do so. The big question is the length of the item. That will determine if you can check it as baggage. Call the airline and best of luck.

Got mine from Bacons.

Defender to NYC may work if the shipping is too high from Canada,but the price was below 400.
Will go on the airline website and check bacon.com

Bacons sold a 14 TO 22 WHISKER POLE FOR ME, AND SHIPPED IT TO FLORIDA.

Yes but I'd call there first before traveling any distance because they don't have every size and their stock fluctuates. If they have what you want, you can buy it over the phone and they'll hold it for you to pick up. They also have a website but I am not sure it accurately reflects their current stock.

Sotomayor is in PR, fellows! His problem is apparently getting the pole there.

No WM will not ship that specific item to Canada or PR. God only knows why.
You have given excellent suggestions, I will post what works as someone may benefit in the future.

Well good grief! A stripper pole is at least as long as a collapsed whisker pole. That sounds like the plan right there.

You might look into buying the end fittings and build it or have it built with locally sourced material.

Or just have a machine shop fabricate the whole thing.

The canadian folks are working on it.
Delta won't take it. ( They kick people out, so I don't want to insist)
I found on a blog if you put it diagonally in a 8 ft by 5ft box the carriers might take it.

Have you tried FedEx? Or DHL? Also, shipping to a business address is usually cheaper than shipping to a residential address especially for oversized pieces. You might be able to ship it to your Marina.

Contact Forespar. They ship poles and booms all the time. They may have something going to PR and could piggyback your selection. They would have you buy it from an authorized dealer and drop ship it.

Talk to a Freight Consolidater in south Florida, this is what they do. Get them the pole and they do the rest, turnkey.
