Have mine mounted on stanchions up high but your picture makes me want to move it down, question whether it is an ankle buster? How far down do I take it?

Is that a fixed pole?

Jeff
No busted ankles in the first couple days. At our dock we generally board on the port side, so we’re not walking in that area too often. I hadn’t even really thought about putting it higher to be honest, at the time it just seemed like lower was most out of the way. That’s a 7-15’ three section telescoping pole. It’s significantly undersized for the boat, but it is the PHRF limit of my J length, and we only plan on using it light winds.

Secure it one inch above the deck and your ankles are safe.

We store our pole on the mast with the outboard end attached to a fitting that is mounted on the deck. The jaw faces aft and there is no possible way for the sheets to get hung up on it or behind the pole. Here are a couple of photos of the fitting. Sorry, no shots of the pole stored.

Bill, what whisker pole do you have? Is it fixed length or telescoping?
11' fixed pole, 2.5" in diameter. And the more I look at this, the more I think the pole end wasn't in the rope loop. Someone may have pulled it loose to get to the mainsail cover zippers and didn't put it back.
Still need a better, foolproof system, which will probably mean replacing the urethane chock on the mast with a fixed mast pole ring. I like what Ted's C&C has, but no room on my boat with the mast wire box in the way.
