One of this year's projects is going to be the installation of a whisker pole on our H31. I would appreciate anyone's comments regarding mast ring placement, topping lift rigging, etc. I plan to use either a 10-18 or 12-18 line control pole.
Ours was installed by the previous owner. It's located at the bottom edge of the boom. Seems to work well there. Our wisker pole is horizontal when in use. I store it on a couple on stanchions on the forward deck. The ring itself is sometimes a nuisance. Seems to catch the jib sheets if I don't tack quickly enough. Jeff 1993 H33.5
...to mount a car on track to be able to adjust the height of the car. The pole should be set perpendicular to the mast and depending on which sail you are poling out and at what angle the height changes. Also make sure you rig a downhaul. Yoy don't want the pole to sky in a puff!!
Doug: The ring for the mast was part of the OEM setup. If you look at the forward side of the mast there is a grove on the mast that has a car with nylon slides on it. You can move it up and down on a line without adding any additional hardware. You should be able to get the ring from Rig-rite if it not already on the boat.
