Which way do you point your fly?

I just purchased a new Simrad wind instrument but have not installed it on the mast head yet. Is it better to point it forward or backward? The photo shows my old instrument pointing backwards. I assumed this was normal as it is easier to see from the helm and would not be damaged potentially by a skying spinnaker halyard! The instructions indicate that I can calibrate the head for pointing either forward or backward (if it is not calibrated correctly, the indicator in the instrument panel could be reversing the direction). It seems to indicate that forward pointing is normal. What say the experts!

Scott….

Point it forward. Pointing it back can place it in turbulence or wind shadows from the other stuff up there. Pointing forward, even flying a spinnaker will rarely interfere with the wind reading. Ferg

Not sure why but

Mine is forward and the arm extends upward. I believe the reason is to minimize error from turbulance. Tim R.
