Hello, I am new to the forum here and I am seeking some advice on what sails to get for my 1978 C27. I have had the boat since 1992 and have just replaced all of the standing rigging, including the addition of a new Schaeffer 750 roller furling assembly. So, now I am trying to decide which brand of sails I should go with to replace my old ones. I am a recreational sailor, no racing. I sail on the Gulf of Catalina here out of Oceanside Harbor in Southern California. So my choices that I am considering are: 1. Stock sails from the Catalina factory. 2. Rolly Tasker sails from Nationalsails.com (made in Thailand). 3. Doyle sails available here at Catalinaowners.com with a 10% discount. Your thoughts on which sails you would recommend would be appreciated. Thanks everybody! Mike Phase 2 1978 C27 Oceanside, California

Sails

My personal feeling is that you'll be so thrilled with your beautiful new sails that you probably wouldn't notice if there really was a "difference". Personally, all things being equal, I'd probably go with Doyle - #1 for the discount but #2 to support this great site. LaDonna

Doyle

My previous boat was purchased new in 1998. The stock sails were Doyle and I was very happy with them. Joe Refkin

Doyle versus Rolly Tasker

Since there is not loft within 100 miles of my home I could not get local warrantee survice no matter where I bought my sails. Also Doyle would not give me a quote for the type of sail I wanted. Like many lofts they sell three basic designs and you choose from those designs or go elsewhere. I wanted a cruising main with no battens and no headboard. The 15% loss in sail area was made up for in the great ease of handling. It's definately a great sail for cruising as I can put it up and take it down on any point of sail. I got my sail from Sabre sails because thay make winning sails in the Southeast and they will mkae any cruising design you want. Rolley tasker will make any type of sail you want, but you will have to hope there are no problems because shipping it back overseas for adjustments could take a while. I have a friend who bought a rolley tasker sails for his Mac 25 and I think he got really great sails for the money. The Doyle sails are good too, but I think they are geared toward the racing crowd and the quality of the Doyle sail I owned was not anything special.
