Which PSS Dripless?

I've got a very leaky stuffing box on my 1986 Catalina 30 and I'm going to have a PYI dripless unit installed this spring. Unfortunately, my boat has been shrinkwrapped and I can't go aboard. PYI requires both the shaft diameter and the seal diameter to place an order. I've got a Universal M25 engine. I figure since the Cat 30 is so popular that I can be the first to be putting one of these in so I'm wondering if anyone out there knows what size PYI unit I need? Thanks! Steve Treppa

Put one in last year

I put one in my '87 Cat 30 last year. The shaft is 1" diameter and the 1-1'2" stern tube diameter is the other critical dimension. The PSS # is 01-100-112. You can order the PSS shaft seal from West Marine as well. Their Model # is 223943 and it's $180. It has worked great for me. The other thing you might consider doing is replacing your cutlass bearing at the same time since you have to pull the prop and shaft in order to install the seal. The cutlass bearing that you need is 1" I.D X 1-1/4" OD X 4" long. Good luck!!

Thanks Joe!

Thanks for the quick and accurate response. That's the thing I love about this forum. On other forums, messages tend to not get replies unless you are with the "in" crowd (in other words a regular). Thanks a bunch! Steve
