I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I know that you highly reccomment the Raritan PH ii head. How often does it need a rebuild (I am not a live aboard and the head has light to moderate use)? Where is the best place to buy it from? Any other reccommendations would be appreciated. If there are any GOOD cheaper solutions please let me know.

Bad, I installed a Raritan head

in 1999 and all I have done to it since is use it. Not a whole lot but every month for the sailing season. I can't remember the purchase price. But I am sure that if it had been troublesome, I would. Somehow when something is completely troublefree the purchase price doesn't seem important.

Several years on our old PHII

We also had a PH II on our H'31. Easy installation and no problems. Just a little grease on the pump. It's not a Jabsco!

Ross, yours is due for a rebuild...

Should be done every 5-6 years. It's not at all unusual for a PH II to keep working for years and years without any obvious problems, but as seals and o-rings become more and more worn, the pump gradually becomes less and less efficient...so gradually that you won't notice it till something in it finally fails. But after 9 years, you should notice a distinct improvement after a rebuild. You should also lube it every spring with thick teflon grease...that'll do things: extend the life the pump and keep it pumping smooth as glass. Even without ANY maintenance, a PH II should last at least 15 years...maintain it, and it'll last up to 25 years.
