Which Halyard Material is Best

Last year I purchased an older Catalina 22 (1978). The halyards are in need of replacement. I noticed in the Foredeck that wire with rope halyards and halyards made of rope only are availabel. Recognizing that the sheaves would need to be replaced for rope only, is there any reason to stay with wire with rope?Thanks in advance - Jim

Rope Halyard

I just replaced my wire/rope halyards to all rope. The job took about 1/2 an hour with a kit I purchased from catalina direct. No. there is no reason to keep those wire halyards.

I like Wire

Rope halyard is lighter, but the no stretch rope is a little harder to keep in the cleat. I like my wire halyards, it does not stretch and the rope on the end is easy to cleat.Many racers use the all rope halyard but unless you are going for the champinship, you are not going to notice the weight aloft.
