Oday 25 Austin, TX
I recently bought an O'Day 25 and would like to purchase a furling unit for the jib, but I'm unsure which brand and model would be best suited for my boat. Harken, for example, makes two different units that fit a 25' boat. Are there any O'Day 25 owners who can give me some advice?

CDI

I put a CDI on my 1979 Oday 23. No upper swivel to deal with, didn't have to recut the forestay. Also the most reasonably priced. This is my third season with the unit, and I haven't had a single problem.

Practical Sailor just did a piece on most of the major brands of furlers. I think it was June or July (??) of this year I am not sure since I threw it out. You may want to get a subscription to this magazine it comes in very handy at times. Dave

CDI right here on OdayOwners.com

Hi Eric - FYI, you can get information and purchase CDI furlers with or without bearings from the chandlery on this site - you need the FF4 (as listed for the O'day 25). If you have specific questions, you can call Karisa and she'll get you any additional information. See Related link below... Best, Trevor

Thanks for the info

Thanks for all the good advice in these replies. The CDI seems like a good deal for my kind of sailing. Do you have to buy a special sail separately?

CDI

I have the CDI furler for 3 years now - no regrets. Make sure you get the roller bearing option - it's worth it!

Thanks, Dave. As it turns out, I actually just ordered the FF4 with bearings. Did you install yours yourself, and did you have to get a jib custom made?
