I am about to buy a new Hunter 36. It comes with a Yanmar 27 HP engine. I asked my prospective dealier what folding 2-bladed prop they recommended. He said they do not recommend folding props because Hunter won't warranty the engine if you get one. Can you shed any light on this? What prop would YOU recommend?

News to me

...about the warranty. As for the prop, I recommend Max-Prop as very efficient and quite powerful in reverse should you run aground. It happens.

What *o ...I have never heard that yanmar

(or any other marine diesel) invalidate warantee because of using a folding prop. Thats Bogus and I'll bet dollars to donuts that your dealer is blowing smoke up your behind. I would definitely call him on it *grr . I would also contact Yanmar and question them directly. Having Hunter not allow folding props is like not allowing a car to have radial tires and have to use only bias-ply BTW. A maxprop is more properly categorized as a feathering prop. A folding prop would be like a Martec

Engine warranty on new Hunters

Hi Steve - Congrats on the new H36! As the others have indicated, changing your prop will NOT invalidate your engine warranty. And as far as that goes, your dealer is responsible for coordinating the engine warranty issues through Yanmar, not Hunter Marine. If a problem occurs do to the result of improper installation, then Hunter is responsible for warranty. If it's the engine itself, or one of it's components, then Yanmar is responsible. Hope this helps, Trevor

Flex-O-Fold

Check out the Flex-o-Fold at www.flexofold.com. Standard equipment on J Boats , X Yachts and Swans. Low drag and excellent performance. Half the price of the Maxi-Prop. Go for the Maxi is cost is not an issue. Ive had two on different boats and I have friends who have them and are completely happy. :)

Maxprop - 3 bladed feathering

is what I had installed and it is very good. Contact Tim at Lighthouse Landing at the link below and he will tell you what size I have. I highly recommend it.

Not heard that

Hello Steve, Not sure what prompted your dealer to say that but no word from Hunter to the negative to us. Most OEM’s like to see upgrades on their boats like a low drag prop. Makes it go faster and them look better. The prop is a 16" x 14" 1" shaft 2 blade or a 16" x 12" 1" shaft 3 blade. I’m a tad biased but Max-Prop all the way. Kevin, PYI, Inc.
