I'm planning to have my Hunter H260 bottom painted. I've recieved several bids. Most of the marinas use the Trinindad paint lines, while the smaller boat repair companies use the Interlux line. Any oppinions out there on the best type of paint.

What is best is what works in YOUR area.

Kevin: What paint is best is really dependent on where your boat is located. Talk to local sailors and see what they are using and what are their results. If you ever look at the Practical Sailor reviews, all the paints are better in some waters and not as good in other areas. Both of the products that you mentioned are good quality products.

Practical Sailor just reviewed them

Kevin, The latest issue of Practical Sailor just tested and reviewed almost all brands of bottom paint. They even tested them in Florida vs. Connecticut.

Kevin, Interlux Optima is the best.

The reviews rate Optima "Outstanding" the first year and "Very Good" the second year. Trinidad is rated "Very Good" the first year and "Good" the second. I have had both on my boat. Trinidad turns rock hard on you. My slip neighbor and I did our boats this year at the same time. After 3 months his boat is showing some growth. Mine is as clean as the day I put it in the water. Interlux claims it will stay this way all year. Will see. The only down side I see with Optima so far is $$$. Its $225 a gallon. But with Trinidad I was having to pay to have the bottom cleaned about 3 times a year. ($50 a pop) So if I can get away with just one cleaning a year on Optima I am ahead of the game. Ted
