A recent "best coffee maker" post elicited several groans of "Oh no, not coffee AGAIN?!". One suffering soul added that at this rate the next thing we'll be probably be arguing about is which beer is the best. Hmmmmmmmm. On a hunch, I checked the forum archives for the words "best beer" and found NO discussion thread whatsoever, so here goes... What's the best beer to have aboard? When is the best time to have it? My vote is ice-cold Red Stripe, in the cockpit, while anchored after a hard day in the sun. Peter H23 "Raven"

best beer

I like St. Pauli NA. On docking, I favor Labatt's Blue. As an ex-patriate Canuck, I still say they make the best beer north of the 49th parallel.

The best beer is...

one that is a fraction of a degree away from freezing!!

It depends on the situation

For just enjoying one or two at anchor, I vote for Bass Ale. For raft up, party hearty times, I vote for Coors Extra Gold ($11.99/30 pack in a local store)

Best temperature

As a former installer of beer equipment the product was to be delivered to the glass/mug at 42 degrees.

One of those skunky beers like Heineken et al. Cheers, Bob Linkage to my web page below

Pacifico! cool, clean, refreshing

and as much as a really cold beer goes down when it is really cold it looses it flavor. I don't know about the optimum temp but as George mentioned the flavor of beverages are enhanced by getting them cool but not ice cold. If you are a wine drinker too, you will notice that the flavor is diminished as the temperature goes down. There is an optimum temperature, so 42 sounds good to me.

Brand not temp!

I think the poster of this discussion wants to know which brand is the best not which temp is best. So I always fill up the beverage cooler with Yuengling Lager. I just cant drink all those watered down budbudlightmickmicklightmillermillerlightbuschbuschlightcoorscoorslight beers. No flavor! Really want to break that bad habit you have of slamming down horse piss? try americas oldest brewerys lager or black and tan. I know most of you cant handle real beer so dont feel bad about it. http://www.yuengling.com/

Millionaire's favorite Beer

In the famous book about Millionaire's called The Millionaire Next Door this question is posed to one of them. "What is your favorite brand of beer?" The Answer is...."Free or Budweiser" I completely agree. Dave

Labatt's!

Labatt's Blue in a can (and LOT'S OF IT). I find that I can fill up the cooler, and, whatever I don't drink, I can just leave behind for the next time, and, just add ice. Canned beer has preservatives, so, that it can cycle from cold to warm to cold, and, not get skunky...very scientific

Actually, I like...

Three Stooges Beer...when you can find it. They came out with a brew over the holidays and it sold out fast. I believe it's brewed under license by Rolling Rock...another great beer! Cheers, Bob

If you don't have......

I you don't have the one you want..... love the one you have. I prefer Sam Adams "Stock Ale"

Actually...

Hello, I intend to use my boat to smuggle beer off the reserve and across the river along with tax free cigarettes.... No wait... Sorry what was the question officer... Newcastle Brown Ale from England from the Tyne in bottles on a line over the dock... If you can't drink it, you can use it as gravy on your potato... YAHBOH... Cheers... SH.

By appointment to..

her majesty "Yeraz 2" Rolling Rock. In bottles. Light but not "lite," flavorful but not cloying or bitter, goes down real easy. As backup, Guinness draft in cans. Reason for bottles is not just that they feel right in a way no can does but they don't corrode and leave you with a bilge or fridge or cooler full of unpenned beer or cans of flat beer. No MegaSwill permitted. But then I learned that Rolling Rock is no longer independent but a unit of the wrold's largest brewing company, Interbrew.

All the British/Irish stuff...

...sucks over here. I lived in Ole Blighty for four years. That was back in the mid eighties whe I was doing missile duty. I miss the taste of their NON-export draughts. Nothing comes even close to a nice freshly drawn Guinness, Bass, or Newcastle. Of course if you liked Bud over there, you could always drink Watney's Red Barrel...PTUUI! Cheers, Bob

Bitte Ein Bit

Bitburger is my favorite beer anywhere in the world. Uncle sam has helped me travel all over the world in search of a favorite beer and Bitburger is it. Least favorite is a toss up between OB in Korea and San Miguel in the PI. There have been some other raunchy stuff in other parts of the world but I am not sure it was really beer or what it's name was.
