I get interested every time I look at a map of the Bay. How hard are the winters, and what's the area like?
Jay
You won't avoid winter on the Chesapeake--winter isn't hard but it's there. The creeks of the middle and northern part do freeze over many years in January.

What's the area like? Hard to say--it's huge and varied. The western shore of the middle and north includes Annapolis and Balitimore, smaller towns to the south. Way south and you're in Norfolk! The eastern shore is more remote. Chestertown, MD is a nice place I could see as a retirement destination.

I think I saw you out last weekend. I saw you anchoring and waved but I guess you didn't see us. We were the 2 Hunters rafted up. I think I have a picture of you crossing under the 41 bridges but it was taken with my phone and looks like crap.
for sure, 'twas I ye beheld last Saturday Eve, and I though the crazed pirate I beheld hopp'n on his gunwale was trying to tell me 'twas not deep enough for me keelson.
Sunday morning after I tidyed my ship, ate my porage and drank me tea, I set off up river to dock at Navigator's. Great river trip. Left at 0800ET and returned around noon.

Next outing will be to explore the West Wall - ending up around the Fishery in Placida.

I also met while undersail back towards the Myakka river, another Blue MacGregor 26M from NS, CAN who are snowbirding on their 26M for 6 months! Bravery is what it is!
