Hi,
Planning a trip next year to Israel with a stop in the Azores. Any recommendations on which port to make use of in the Azores?

Haven't sailed there but I enjoyed my time at Lajes on Terceira Island. There is (was maybe, I did not realize until I thought about it but it's been a long time since I was there) a very nice very protected harbor there.

@dLj recently completed a trip across the Atlantic and back. I'm sure he'll have some tips.
Thanks for pointing out this thread @kappykaplan.

@GeneraiT001 - there are many islands in the Azores - all are beautiful and quite different. What boat are you planning to go there in? How long are you planning to spend there?

I was there for about a month and wish I'd had longer. I'd suggest you get a subscription to Noonsite. You could start now with the free access but that only gives you 3 countries a month to get all the legal entrance data. Getting a paid subscription is very inexpensive and then you can get all data available without that limitations. It's really worth it!

The Azores are really spectacular. There is way too much to say for this kind of thread. Horta is the major sailing port of entrance and if you need work done on your boat it's the best place to get it done. There is a company there called MAYS (Mid Atlantic Yacht Services) that is excellent. They probably have changed owners by now, they were in the process when I was there. So I can't fully vouch for them by next year but I do know the original owner was very focused and getting someone to take over the business that would be consistent with his business philosophy.

Anyway, lots more about other islands, if you want, drop me a PM.

As far as Israel, nothing anyone can tell you today is guaranteed to be valid next year. That whole region is in flux. Noonsite is your friend ..

Have a great trip!
