am interested in purchacing a roller furling system and would like to know where to get one at a reasonable price and what kind to get for someone who just sails for fun and not into racing.
Hey Britt,A buddy of mine has had great luck with a new Shaeffer roller furler. Very smooth furling & solidly built. As for the "reasonable price" part, I still can't believe what they get for those things. I've got an original Hood furler on my 1977 C-30 that I'm sticking with until it fails me. Good luck with your search.
If price is a big concern try CDI. Their ad's are in all the sailing magazines. We had one on a H260 and it worked just fine. We have a schaefer 2100 on our C310, so far so good.
I've got a CDI furler that came with the boat when I purchased it (a c27). It's not the smoothest system around, but I haven't had any real problems and it requires no maintenance. It seems to be the cheapest around, and they give a lifetime warranty to the original owner.
Try the Sail Wahehouse in Monterey Ca.Give them a call. I did a new CDI furler and jib last fall. So far the furler is working great. The economy priced Rolly Tasker sail thinks it's much more expensive that it was. A darn good value! The package has seen some pretty good winds out on the bay and takes it all in stride.John.
