I've been building a dinghy for my Cat 30 and am in the market for a small outboard (3hp or less). I've tried all the usual searches with no luck. Ebay has a few, but they are either $500 or more or they are 50+ years old (seriously). Any ideas on where to look for small used outboards? Thanks,

try E-bay

I have bought 2 off of e-bay and both worked great, and still do.after several years. Both were less than $150 each. Fair Winds Gerry

At the pier in petersburg

I just lost my 3 hp evinrude in a dumb docking maneuver. It's right at the pier, but could not reach bottom. I am looking for a 5-6 hp now. I would be thankful for info on used outboard motors as well.

Swap Meets

I you live in an area that has nautical swap meets, there are usually a couple. Also, check the bulletin boards at local yacht clubs and marinas.

Cruise 'n' Carry

Honest! They stopped making them years ago but there are still stocks of brand new engines out there selling for about $350. Google it. I have owned three of them. One stolen, one lost over board and the third still ticking after nearly twenty years. I have been able to get parts with no problem, said parts being only for the recoil starter. Engine once froze up for lack of use but a little WD40 squirted into the sparkplug hole got it running again. These engines are basically a weedcutter engine which is still being made so parts are available. Very light, twelve pounds. Noisy little buggers though.

I bought one from ErieOutdoors last year.

Picked up a 1.5hp CruiseCarry from them works great. Had one on my Capri 14.2 years ago. Noise is a problem but you can beat the hell out of these engines and they keep going. Jim S/V Java
