I remember when a "boat dollar" was equal to $100.00 but now it seems to have crept up to $1000.00. I have been looking to replace my cng oven and I find i will need to spend around one and half boat dollars. Has anyone found a reliable supplier of cng oven combos cheap? Please let me know.

New?

Gosh, John, with all the conversions to LPG, there must be a lot of really good used units around. Minney's Marine may have some. Might try a wanted ad under 'Gear Here' on this site. Sorry I don't have any suggestions on new. Good luck, Rick D.

Cpt. John: Did you try Seaward?

See the link for their prices. Looks like $1K for a three-burner with oven. Rick D.

If you want used try this!

There is a consignment shop on rt1 in Wickford RI that has just about everything. People come from all over and with all the conversions to propane they must have a fine selection. Sorry don't remember the name Russell S/V Allie Kat

Why?

John Why replace a CNG unit with CNG? CNG is becoming difficult to find and costly. Many folks are changing over their own CNG units to propane by switching out the burner orifices and keeping the old hardware (don't know why you need a new stove). If you have the space for the tank to go to propane, you should consider it. If you need a new stove anyway, why not propane? The ONLY reason we still have CNG on our boat is because there is a ready supply within walking distance of our marina and the PO put a second backup tank on board. Propane is much more available outside the US and, now, even within the borders. PS You're right about the BUs - 'cept if you have a C25, it's still $100, but the length of the boat increases the # of BUs per foot. Don't know whether it's straight line, exponential or logarithmic. I hear there's a thesis being done, probably at UC Davis, on this, to be released the first day of boating 2003!

safety safety safety thats why.

Hey stu thanks for the input. I am a die hard with cng. the safety issue of the gas has sold me. I charter the boat and have a 3 year old and other people bring their children on as well. so the thought if the kids or some grown kid is playing with the stove i relax in the fact that cng gas is lighter then air and lifts out of the boat where as propane does not. I have a supplier right in town for cng and keep 2 large bottles stored. I just cant make the jump to propane unless i only took out informed boaters.

CORP Brothers

Try Corp Brothers, Inc in Providence. They're the largest Northeast supplier of CNG tanks and accesories, including stoves. I bought a 3-burner w/oven and broiler from them in 1991 for $650 and have never had a problem. Their number is 401-331-8020 unless they've changed from 1991. I've got no connection with them other than being an extremely satisfied customer.
