Don: Another point is when one battery goes south the other one follows in short order! Heavy use of your autopilot will definitely take a good strain on one battery but who puts 2 ea. 27's in a Catalina 22 with minimal demand anyway? Your only real demand that you listed is the Autopilot. I have 2 ea. 24's in my Catalina 250 and use lots of amps per day with 160 watts of solar on it as well. Have no power problems.
You need 2 ea 6 volt batteries like Clouddiver intends to use. A 30 watt solar panel for 2 ea 27's is just unbelievable! Its good that you are not drawing much out of those batteries because you sure are not putting squat back in with a 30w solar panel.
The whole point here is you MUST put back what you take out!
