I plan to glue plastic laminate over some "exhausted" wood just inside the companionway. This will be on the two vertical surfaces (port/starboard). Where do I buy sheet laminate? I want a smooth surface, not textured, if possible. Thanks in advance Rich

Choices

Plastic (Formica) Home Depot, Lowes You may be completely happy with this fix. I wouldn't be. Real wood veneer Woodcraft or Woodworkers Source The real wood veneer is VERY thin and has a heat activated glue on the back that lets you cut it to fit and then iron it on. It will look really good and you will probably be proud of the repair. But... if you don't have a good surface to work with the Formice type produce may be your better choice.

If the wood is

terrible then you probably won't get good adhesion with laminate. When I did a refit on Bietzpadlin I covered all of the old painted plywood with new wood that I planed to about one eighth inch thick and glued and nailed it on. I used very small brass brads and epoxy. Then I finished as new wood.
