Where is the best place to mount a second halyard to rise and lower the mast on H26 1996.
Need to add a second halyard to the front of the mast. The Schaeffer roller furling uses the jib halyard to rise jib.
Thanks for any help and photos would be great.

If you want to install a dedicated halyard consider a block near the top of the mast. Can you use the mainsail halyard vs. adding another halyard? Interesting thread on Hunter 260 mast raising system: Hunter 260 Mast Raising System.

Haven't try the main but I was afraid it would try to twist the Mast to one side . Still need to remove the jib from the roller furling and lower Mast and take look at it. Haven't try to lower it since I brought it the first of year.

Yes, you can get the OEM parts from US Spars. Look at the diagrams in the Parts Catalog and find the part number, then order from their site. I added a spin halyard to my mast this summer. Let me see if I can find the pics.

My H26 had two "jib" halyards (1995). One was for the spinnaker. Yours may have the block already in the mast ... is it possible the PO removed the line?

So you need a second halyard just to step and lower the mast? I don't think you should need this. On my H23 with Harken furler, which also uses the jib halyard to raise the fitting on the furler that pulls up the jib, I use the single jib halyard. I'm not familiar with the mast raising system that came with your boat, but assume it uses a gin pole. To unstep: I lower the jib and remove it from the foil. It's a lot easier to handle the mast without the sail on the furler. I attach the gin pole to the mast and hook the now free jib halyard to the top fitting on the pole so it is about or slightly above horizontal. I then attach the block and tackle used to lower the mast to the lower pole fitting. I think that is your main sheet as supplied with the 26. I tension it to loosen the forestay some and then unhook the forestay from the bow chain plate (actually, I remove the furler drum that acts like a big turnbuckle but that may not apply to your furler). I then use the tackle to carefully lower the mast. Obviously opposite to raise it. If you don't want to remove the jib, I guess you'd need a second halyard, but is it worth it to have extra hardware just for two uses per season? I always felt it is better to fold and store the sails inside for the winter anyway.

I don't see anything up there but will know more when I lower the Mast. Is your halyard inside or outside the mast?

That's what I'll probably do. Just was thinking about getting a spinnaker sometime.

@isaksp00 gave some good advice on raising and lowering the mast. I would recommend removing the sail to use the jib halyard to attach to the mast raise pole. Also removing the jib is less weight to deal with when raising or lowering. Do not use the main halyard as part of the mast raise system as that can creat issues and in a couple of cases there were mast failures.

I believe your furler is made of aluminum extrusions. Anyway a halyard above the forestay should remain for a spinnaker

If you wish to talk with me, send me a private message with your phone number.

Thanks Dave, pulled the jib down this morning. The track is a poly extrusion, will go back later and lower mast. Started to rain.
