Where is ground in Hunter 34?

I am installing the Raymarine Ev-100 autopilot in my 1984 Hunter 34. The power to the EV-100 and to "backbone" both include a third ground wire with instructions to attach to boat's ground. What does this mean? Where is this? Is the attachment point behind the power panel?

It might be time to buy a good boat electrical book, like Charlie Wing's.

The boat ground is the engine. The (-) from the batteries are connected there. The electrical panel must also have a ground wire to complete all the circuits on the panel, and then a ground wire from there to the engine ground or connected to the battery main ground wire to the engine.

For sure at the battery negative (-) terminal. Follow the wire from there and it will likely lead you to a common ground area. It is likely the engine like Stu indicates but in some boats a common negative post was utilized. Follow the wire.

Autopilot ground wire

When I installed my new Raymarine AP, the system ground (the "digital" ground), the yellow wire supplied was taken to the battery negative post about 18 inches away from the CPU's mounting. I believe the instructions stated that this was acceptable.
