i always hand steer while under sail, never sail with autopilot. i am a highly skilled helmsman. i do a better job :)

i always prefer sailing with a crew. you can't do as much shorthanded

i love sleeping while under sail :)

i allow no lights in the cockpit when dark out. the nav station is down below and the light shielded from the watch on deck.

i push the boat for what ever the weather. if you push back you get a better ride. if you are underpowered for any given weather then the boats wallow/ sucky ride. allot of windage causes wallowing has been my experience
especially on boats say 45' and less as i am

we get these south westerly winds that funnel up a 50 mile fetch on green bay with these charming 5' rollers that are a hoot to play in.

on the great lakes there is no need for chain on your ground tackle making anchoring way easier. that's right i said it :)

my 1966 B&G radio direction finder is still on board, to look at, it's AM so i can listen for lighting if needed
