Well, it's the last weekend before I am supposed to take my boat out of the water. Typically, it is usually one of the best sailing weekends of the year and it gives me the will to make it to spring. As I sit at my computer, snowflakes the size of dimes are falling out of the sky and hiding the grass and Halloween decorations outside. And like her namesake, Loon my H26 still sits in her slip, staying in the water too long. I pray that this freak weather does not freeze her ballast tank and split her in half like that poor guy in Alien. My wife, who loves winter, has been doing the snowdance all day. It will be a truly dark and loooooooooooooooooooooooooong winter. Freezing my Transom off in Wisconsin Mike Pajewski H26 "Loon"

lost summer,

Here in Ohio it has not seen fit to let us have the forecast snow, but it is cold and we still have until the 1st of nov to exit slip , if it means anything to you , your message struck a cord , I am sure there are many of us who seem to share your view, it is like life has lost some of whatever it is that gets us thru the week doing jobs that we may not be thrilled about , just to get another weekend of sailing in, for what it is worth at least your wife is happy. my wife likes winter as much as u and I , there will be another warm weekend, and time still to sail one more time, have a great winter, Mike

Texas Winterizing

Well guys, I can really feel your pain! I used to live in Michigan and I went through the same trauma. Now, I live in the heart of Texas and I winterize my boat (H26) by folding the bimini back and putting the boot on. Hope to hear from you in the Spring.

Just in Time

Two weekends ago I pulled my boat out and it was in the 90's......Just in time because this weekend the over night lows were in the 20's. It is safe and sound in my driveway winterized. One just never knows. May have to move south someday but for now will watch the video I made of sailing and head to Colorado and go skiing. Corky

Summer is heading south on I-75 and I-95

We are having our first cold front of the season. The high today in Orlando is going to be near 70, but the wind is blowing from the north at 18 to 20, gusting to 25, so if it makes you feel any better, I'm staying on the dock today too. Who says you have to quit sailing now that fall is here? Why not put your boat on the trailer and follow the snow birds south? The Gulf coast is about an 18 hr drive from Detroit; do it in two days and sleep overnight on the boat in a rest area. Also, many charter companies have small keelboats in their fleets and will do a three-day charter, so you don't have to sell your house just so you can bareboat for a few days. A three-day charter on a Catalina 32 is about $900 w/ tax and insurance. Split four ways, that's $75 per person per day. Peter S/V Raven
