Where Do You Have Your Mast Plate Set?

On my 1980 O’Day 23 the mast plate (base of the mast) has a series of holes for fore and aft adjustment of the mast. By removing the base plate from the mast and unbolt/ rebolt the base plate you can move the mast’s position on the plate by an inch or two. My assumption would be that you could adjust weather / lee helm with this adjustment. Mine is currently set full forward. Where is yours set? And has anyone moved theirs and what was the result?Thanks!Shine On!Don

Mast Tabernacle

Don,When I changed my mast Tabernacle over from that chintzy aluminum Tabernacle to a Kenyon Stainless Steel hinge with the utility plate, I put my mast in the same position it was in when it came from the factory. There were no slots on the plates, but I did have to drill four new holes through the cabin to mount it. The original aluminum Tabernacle had a sheave at the bottom for the Jib halyard, and I hated it. I was so happy to be rid of that set up and have my Jib halyard exit my mast near where my Main halyard comes out. The 192, 222, and 240s had this set up back in the mid to late 1980s. I've raked the mast on my 222 just enough to offer a satisfactory weather helm.Joe
