Just curious where all the dead sailboats go?, After Ike hit us , there are a ton of bad boats with really good hardware that I could really use to repair and even upgrade my boat without paying retail for new, I was wondering where it all goes?

depends on the insurance co. if its a porgressive boat they sell everything @ salvage direct.com some go to local salvage companys and i know of some being trucked to Fl. to be striped and crushed. your best bet is to watec e bay in the next few mo. but i will tell you the deals arent what you think especally on winches and hardware

I'm an EBay junkie and I thought there would be tons of stuff on EBay but that wasn't so. I guess some stuff showed up after a couple of years but looking back at all the boats that were destroyed and also the couple of storms that went through Florida did some damage to watercraft I really thought there would be more.
Maybe some people bought lots of boats from the insurance company's and fixed the boats as cheap as they can and sold them

I saw a lot of video's on youtube of crews crushing, what looked to be good shape, sailboats. Motors and all hardware just crushed and put in a dumpster for lane fill. Brakes my heart but you can find some on E-bay that need "a little TLC" but I think not. I bought a sailboat on E-bay in Florida last year, The salvage yard told me that the boat was perfect except no standing rigging and the price was cheap. I drove 12 hours to find a sponge. Be carfull. Alan

It would not surprise me
It would not surprise me, that among those that still float but are worthless for some reason and where insurance is non-existent, they are sailed out at night and never return. Blub blub. Just a guess, but it would not surprise me.

After Katrina there were literally hundreds of boats sunk, partially sunk, and torn all to pieces around here. Heard several guys saying they were going and getting parts and pieces they needed, off of boats that were obviously never to be used again, and the owners coudn't be found. I did some checking, as there were a couple of high dollar items I would have loved to have. So I asked around, and no one knew squat about who to contact, or where. Asked my next door neighbor, who is a county sheriff, and he told me don't. That would more than likely be a ticket straight to jail. For theft and for trespassing. If you can't talk to the owner of the boat, and have written permission to take something, don't. No matter how tempting.
