My mainsail (on a Cat 30) has no battens in it. I was wondering where I could get some battens, and an aproximate cost for a set. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,Gary
You can order battens from any sail maker and possibly a few mail order marine parts places like west marine. Shipping them could be very expensive if they are too long so check out the Local sail lofts first.
in different widths and lengths. Does your sail have pockets or are you thinking about installing them? Installing could be expensive compared to buying the battens. They make a major difference in the performance of my boat as I found out when I lost two.Drill a hole in the aft end and tie them in with small line.RayS/V Speedy
Thanks guys! I'll check with a local sailmaker and/or West Marine. My current sail has the pockets...but for some reason is missing the battens Thanks,Gary
Gary, be prepared to lose some if you don't lock them in. As suggested, you can tie them in, but what I do is tape the pocket opening with sail repair tape to prevent the battens from sliding out. No holes made that way.
Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a few yard sticks. At most stores their free. Measure them, cut them, and put them in. Works every bit as good as the battens. Sounds abit funny, but try it, you'll be impressed and best part is, you'll still have your money in your pocket. Howard R.
