Where do all the old boats go?

Question, What happens to all the old Fiberglass boats when they are ready for the scrap heap? There must be lots of them by now.

From what I've seen good parts are removed and the rest is copped up with a circular saw or chain saw. The remains are carted away and the smell of Fiberglas lingers in the air for a long time. Sad to see old boats end their lives like that. if only they could be adopted by new loving owners. As someone who has restored old boats....most aren't cheap if you want to really restore them.

Around here they just smash them up with a backhoe and sell the metal for scrap and the rest goes into a dumpster and then to a land fill.

Just like cars and planes, boats outlive their usefulness. They sit for a short period and if not sold they are stripped and scrapped. Sadly fiberglass does not recycle.

While fiberglass does not break down in a landfill, I would rather see them flattened and entombed there for eternity, than littering the sea bottom for the same duration of time.
