system. I know enough to get into trouble but not how to get out. I have a Hunter 23.5 with a 9.9 electric start Tohatsu. I just purchased an auto tiller and am considering: 1. installing a second battery 2. putting in an A B switch for the batteries. 3. putting in some guages to monitor battery voltage, amperage or whatever 4. Putting in AC line for use in port ... radio, stereo, etc.... Any suggestions where I might learn more. I'm looking for electricity for dummies type information. Thanks Hayden

Sailboat Electrics Simplified

Last year I bought a copy of Don Casey's "Sailboat Electrics Simplified". At the time I knew *absolutely nothing* about 12V marine electrical (I'm a new sailor). While I haven't attempted all of the projects you specified, I found that this book gave me the information I need to attempt any of them. I hope this helps!

There is a boak called the 12 volt bible

It is very good. You could learn to do the 12 volt stuff yourself easily. For the shore power line I'd have that done by a professional marine electrical person. Don't even trust a land/house electrician to do it. Marine 120 volt power is easy to get wrong and if not done just right it can kill you. I run my radio and TV and VCR off an inverter and the one battery. I wouldn't put in shore power until you are sure you need it as it is pretty expensive if done right.
