Where can I get a Jib sock for my furled jib - or do I need one? While I've usually towed with the jib removed from the furler i DO have a sunbrella edge for the jib and would like to tow a couple hundred miles next month without fooling with the messenger rope;lubing furler guides;and of course the extra time prepping for raising and afterward to add to my already long raising/rigging process(I have lots of safeguards just in case anything goes wrong and it takes me close to 2 hours to be ready to launch)and reduce the number of times I have to convince my arthritic knees and artaficial hips to climb in and out of the boat during the process. Does it have to be made of canvas or will some other material do? I call home base central NJ... If you can't tell from the pic on my avatar, I have a 76 V21 and the jib(from a smaller precision would be my guess) is barely an 100% masthead rig.

Thanks, Phil

Thanks, Phil. I hadn't spotted socks in the canvas shop. I didn't see customer service listed on the chandlery link - does this go OVER the sunbrella cover that I originally had installed on the Jib edge (see 4th or 5th page of my site) or is it only for 'bare bones' furled headsails that didn't have a sunbrella cover to begin with?

I am not a fan of them

after having one. They really pump or shake the rig in high wind. Only way I could stop it was to use a line wrapped around the outside of it. Skip all that and use the sunbrella on the edge of the sail. Just my opinion...

Thanks, Mike

Thanks, Mike. I was wondering about that as well. I roll up the jib with a strong tension on the sheets(don't want it unravelling!)even while 'dry sailed' and the sunbrella covering is pretty tightly tied with them. On my last trip to the same location after going through a bit of hell rigging(having only done it once before on that boat)I left the jib hanked on for the return trip. This saved quite a bit of time preparing to tow and then setting up at my home port a few days later.

The ATN company (that makes spinnaker snuffers, Gale Sails, Topclimbers, and other sailing conveniences) has a new product that is a cover for furled jibs on cruisers. Their quality and product design is top notch. You can find their ads in any sailing magazine or google them on the web. Agaliha
