I have a 1983 Hunter 31 and need to replace the merriman blocks on my boom. I have searched all over the internet, contacted West marine and can't find the blocks. The sleeves have deteriorated. Any suggestions would help. Im a relatively new owner and don't want to buy the wrong thing.

Not sure, but why not look at another brand like Schaefer, Gerhauar, Harken etc and get a new block?

Measure the sheave diameter and find one at Garhauer.com. Or check Ebay if you are determined to have all matching blocks. I found a couple used Merriman stand up block there. I have 5 or 6 different brand blocks on my boat ;)

I don't see what's unique about that one. You should be able to find a sheave of another brand or another block altogether that with function just the same.

Merriman has been out of business for many years.. The Garhauer folks make a fine replacement (their 30-13 in this link http://garhauermarine.com/catalog_process.cfm?cid=14 ) If one of the three on the boom are gone, chances are that the others will soon follow. Some other folks make some that look a lot like the old Merriman blocks, Schaefer series 5, http://www.mauriprosailing.com/us/category/9-Schaefer-5-7-Series-Blocks.html,
You can find a replacement sheave and drill and press out the axle pin and replace the sheave and replace the axle with a bolt.. usually a complete new block is the best option..
Welcome to the forum.

Vee I also have an '83 H31 any similar size block will work, we have replaced ours. It was a while back so don't recall the brand I'll look next time I'm at the boat. I too am a Garhauer fan. I put there EZ Glide genoa cars on my Genoa tracks and I LOVE it! We also have Garhauer clutches. I find they provide excellent equipment at a reasonable price.

Don't fool around trying to replace just the sheaves on those old blocks. The Garhuaer blocks are a perfect replacement for them (a significant upgrade actually) at a reasonable price. I replaced all my old Merriman blocks & traveler with Garhuaer about five or six years ago. No regrets. Also have the Garhauer rope clutches and rigid vang.
