Why can't you truck one? It is done all the time. You will probably get a better price on an east coast boat than on one from the great lakes to help pay for the transportation.

If you wait long enough or take a look at some other similar models you can probably have a boat very soon.

Steve,
Thanks, I never thought of it. I've trucked in cars in the past, but have never seen a boat trucked. You just expanded my search are exponentially - Thanks!

We had our Hunter Vision trucked from Stockton Mo. to Stockton Ca. It was about 2000 miles.

Figure $2.50 to $3.50 per mile. Add $1000 to load and unload her.

As Steve says this happens all the time. Its a big business. The value of it (the move) is better for bigger boats, where the shipping cost is a single digit percentage of the overall boat's all-in cost. Look into it.

I paid $3/mile. No charges other than mileage. The yard unloaded it and did some work (installed wind sensor, stepped mast, painted bottom and some other minor work) $1800.

Sometimes you can find a trucker that needs a load going in the opposite direction and you can save some money.

Have not talked to a broker yet, not sure if we will put it up for sale in fall or next spring. Attached are some photos.
My goodness, if you have a prospective buyer, why get a broker involved??? 10% of YOUR proceeds to print up an agreement? If you sign with one you pay him no matter how your boat sells.

Fire Escape,
I agree with Jackdaw. Why pay a broker? Your boat looks well cared for and we would probably have a marine survey done that will suggest a value. If that agrees with what you think it is worth, we'd have a deal - sans broker, sans 10-15%.
Please keep me posted on your thinking.
Best, Mercman

Hunter 29.5 A Few Questions

Have not talked to a broker yet, not sure if we will put it up for sale in fall or next spring. Attached are some photos.
Fire Escape,
You should have my e-mail address, so I'll wait to hear if/when you might consider selling. If you are serious about selling, my son and I might drive up during the summer, just to decide if we are interested in buying.

Looking at the 29.5 brochure, I have a question: with the boom vang / short traveler design, does the headroom under the mainsheet limit the helmsman's movements? Say your crew is taking over the helm - can the skipper move under the mainsheet easily? On a broad reach? Never sailed this design, only the older 1970's traditional versions.

What is your draft? What year is your boat?
Mercman :)
