I recently bought a 1989, 22ft. catalina, with slight damage to the rub rail from hurricane Katrina. I've taken it out 3 times and it sails great. It's the first time I've sailed in 20 years, but it was like riding a bike. I can't find the running and anchor lights. At the bottom of the mast, there is a wire coming from it, and the deck has a plug for a 4 wire socket. There are lights on the mast, and one on the stern. But I can't seem to find the port and starboard lights. Can anyone help me with this?

Bow and stern

There should be a single bow light with red and green and a single white stern light.

22 running lights

Mine were welded to the bow pulpit and to the stern railing, with wiring running thru the railings themselves. I would guess that yours are missing unless Catalina revised the wiring and lighting configuration in l989. I love the 22. Sails like magic

rail mount

you most likely have a piece broke off the bow pulpit, there was a tang welded just under the front that the light mounted to. You can have this welded back or you can get a new light that will clamp on the rail (I have one) This light can be bought from Catalina Direct as well as a lot of other places I'd guess. CD has it listed in there catalog. You should get the handbook anyway even if you don't always buy from them, in it is listed nearly every part on the C22.

C-22 lights for about 1985 and later

The mast should have four wires, three positive and one ground. They are for: green = ground white = steaming (bow) light black = deck (not sure where that is) red = anchor The original electrical panel should have the following: Accessory = for whatever Running = red and green light on the pulpit and white light on the pushpit (stern pulpit) Deck = probably on the spreaders, but not sure Bow = light on mast above spreaders; this should be more appropriately labeled steaming Anchor = the light at the top of the mast Cabin = yea duh, cabin lights which probably have their own switches as well Service = main switch to battery Sounds like what you need is a four prong plug to go into the four prong deck plug. I suggest contacting Catalina Direct for this plug. It also sounds like that maybe the running lights on the pulpit were smashed off. This too may be replaceable from Catalina Direct depending upon the extent of the damage.

Running lights

If you have not found your running lights yet, I suggest you'd better go catch them.

Running lights

Hi, My 1987 model is probably very similar to yours. It has running lights fastened to the bow pulpit (Red & green. the wiring for the bow running light comes up through the area of the anchor locker behind an access hole and works through the pulpit stainless tubes to a hole on the top rail directly on the bow. On the stern rail (Stbd side) is a white running light. A steaming and deck light is about halfway up the mast on the forward side. There is also an Anchor light at the top of the mast under the windex. The lights on mine are all made by the company called AQUA-SIGNAL. Watch that deck light. If it's working, it is one of those halogens. You need to clean any fingerprints off of it for it to last. You also need to unplug that halogen light if you are going to work on the steaming light in that fixture or the halogen light will break. This link shows the three lights. Combo masthead/deck, White stern light and the bi-color on the bow but it does not show the bracket on the bow pulpit where this light hangs. ~Bilbo

Thank you for such a quick answer. I did find out that the port and stbd light is located on the pulpit. The tang, and light assembly must have come off during Katrina, along with the rub rail damage. I book marked the web site you sent so that I may shop for needed lights in the future. Thanks again!
