you can get the maps free from NOAA, BUT

they are in a format unreadable by Raytech and the like. Their is a utility that converts them to standard format, and i used to have a copy, but my HDD crashed and i lost it. Luckily i had the maps i use (lots of south Florida and some world maps) on CD-R. If anyone wants to trade map libraries, just email me, I have a big web server, my libary is 127mb.. All my maps are in .geo and .nos formats (readable by Raytech Navigator, Captn, etc..) unwiredone2003@yahoo.com

US Sailors are Fortunate

In the US your charts and maps are in the public domain by law. Almost everywhere else in the world this is not the case. States have their own Hydrographic Offices which are mostly government funded but which try to make a profit on their products. What the UK office has done is to sign up all others wanting to distribute UK charts with a deal to receive the monthly chart corrections - for a fee. In return I believe each country agrees NOT to distribute this information for free and also every purchaser must pay a royalty to the UKHO. You are lucky guys!
