This is my first boat and the first haul out. I will be away for a business for whole winter. Should I buy bottom paint right now or in the spring? Is there a shortage of paint in the spring?

On Sale

I've not experienced any shortage of bottom paint. I usually get it early in the spring when it goes on sale, usually saving as much as 50 dollars on each gallon (with rebates).

No shortage, but...

...you may get some better prices then. Although, if you bought it now, you would probably beat any price increases. Better chance that way! :)

wait 'till spring

Hello, In the spring, West Marine (and every other boat places) will have gallons and gallons and gallons of bottom paint lined up and on sale in the store. Don't buy it now. Barry

Buy it anytime, but don't apply it yet

You should not apply it until just before launch. Like only a day or two before launch. If you let your bottom paint stay in contact with air too long, they become pretty much worthless.

Paint how often?

I use ablative paint because I trailer my H26 a lot. It still looks good after two seasons of lake boating. Am I fooling myself - should it be painted every year?
