My question is (forget the weather forecast) if you are out under sail and it starts raining, how much stress is both the main and jib sail have and the performance on the boat overall with both being soaked. Just assume a rain with not much wind and just a steady downfall.
Should you bring both sails in and go with motor power.

Let the nice clean water wash them ! The rain does not affect the dacron.. but do try to let them dry before putting them in covers or bags to avoid mildew, which can permanently stain the cloth.. Sail On.. Enjoy.

Rain

by myself,
I am often under full sail in the rain. Wet sails are not a concern.

In our area, summer rain can be accompanied by sever weather cells. I hear many stories about boaters surprised by strong gusts as the front moves in. I prepare for the worst each time I see a weather front moving in. I secure all loose gear, close all hatches, and go to a reach. I make sure my sheets are free to run and I can easily let fly if needed.

With rain gear on, I enjoy the washdown.

Not just no, hell no!!! The rain is wonderful for cleaning the sails. There is absolutely no added pressure to them in the rain. That comes from the wind and they were built for that very thing. Whether you motor or sail you'll get just as wet in the rain, so sail whenever there's a choice.
