I had my boat for just a couple of weeks before it was pulled for Sandy.
Over the winter I have been making my list of things to buy for the coming season. PFDs, dock lines, running rigging, cushions, etc.

I have also done price comparison at different sites, including this one.

My question is when is a good time to buy?
Does this site have a spring sale?
I see some online venders offer "Boat Show Pricing".

I just read in another thread you should do some buying over the winter because if you wait until spring, lead times are longer as everyone is now ordering prior to launch.

Ive been buying all winter for items that I want for my boat. what I wont do is try to buy everything all at once, but rather spaced out over time. if you find a good deal on something, grab it. so far Ive purchased winches, anchors, cleats, and a few other items. the place where Im getting my dockline from has a very large supply, so that was set on the back burner for now. it will be gotten next month. youve done the homework, now start stocking up. all my gear is in the garage til I am ready to start adding and installing.

I agree with Soldier, Not so much as seasonal sales for pricing, although that is in there too, but to plan to-do list, shop and pick up stuff over the winter months helps to pass the days of hard water. Then..... all of a sudden it's spring and when you look in the magic box in the garage it full of new toys to play with and didn't even hurt the wallet too bad, at once.

Apparently WM has a 30% off sale right now (2/14-2/24). Usually one store on Long Island has a "super sale" that I try to get to.
I usually end up getting their CPP bottom paint for around $80/gallon with a mail in rebate.

That said, WM often does not have the cheapest prices. Defender.com usually has a winter sale which some swear by. It is a bit of a hike for me as there warehouse store is nearly in Rhode Island.

It is a good idea to shop around on the web to price the various items you need and buy them when you find a good deal. Buying something at the last minute is when you end up paying top dollar at a place like WM.

The best deals on some things do not come from marine stores. Batteries can be had from places like Sam's Club or even Costco at prices no marine place will offer.
You can't even find Butyl tape at most marine stores. They just don't sell it.

before you purchase anything, if you do your research then go on eBay, we can pretty much figure out if your getting the best deal. Sometimes if you want to ensure high-quality and standards for certain things -- I would not base your decision on price alone but rather the manufacturer and supplier providing such.

I came to the conclusion long ago that ebay was a shop rigged for the sellers. Like some kind of M.E.bazaar where your searches generated more sellers with a crazy spread of pricing. There seems to be an internal communication that causes me pause. And when you find the item you are looking for at the best price it is "backordered" or some such. I prefer more trustworthy and transparent shopping.

It seems that Defender lowers its prices on items right after you buy them. Then again, it was just before Christmas when I purchased a boatload of stuff...

Been using Defender since 1976. Stephan is really a cool dude and tries hard to keep prices fair. If prices change, it's for a reason- not a screw you deal.

My luck ran the other way. The PFD I was looking at was $220 before Christmas. Now it is $236 on sale.
I held off on my spending this winter so I could research what I needed and what I wanted and work out some kind of budget. The more I read on the forums, different things moved around on my priority list.
I am now ready to start buying so it sounds like:
No, this site does not have a winter sale.
Anytime is a good time to buy but beware prices go up Jan 1.
and
If I can take advantage of Boat Show Pricing, go for it.

Thanks

I like Jamestown distributers for all kinds of parts and stuff to make repairs, and to check prices, join the club, for like $40 and u get free shipping for a year. I have not been in 2 years, but check the defender website, for the dates of their spring store sale, you have to drive to the conn store but its great for deals....Red

Get on the defender promotional email list. There big warehouse sail is coming up and it's on line too! LINK http://www.defender.com/?trk_msg=0H...fender.com/&utm_campaign=Miami+Boat+Show+2013
I have been searching the local online classifieds and have got some GREAT deals! I also went to the Toronto boat show and met some suppliers and retailers that I purchased things from. (Made note that they will give 10-15% off if I buy form there web site!!) So guess ware I'm going to be shopping. It pays to meet the owner of the store.
There are deals out there sometimes.... (I was hoping for a Boxing day sale.... NONE that I could find on line.) I have found some good deals on EBay as well.
Do your research before hand.
I just noticed you are in NJ. If you can make do with used things Craigslist in your area. Just test before you buy as the item may have been in the drink after Sandy.
