When do you dump the water out of your H260? Do you open the valve when you first guide it on the trailer, when you start up the ramp, or on the flat at the top of the ramp??

I open mine on my H26 on approach to the ramp. My ramp isn't that busy most times, so once I'm on, I have my wife pull me up the ramp till my drain is clear. I then let her drain most of the way, then close her, re-float her to get her nice and centered, and we're out. The rest I dump on the way to my dry slip.
I open it when I tie up to the dock. That's when I raise the rudder and engine. The boat always is perfectly aligned on the trailer because of the centering device on the bottom bunk. I pull forward enough for it to pee and then I comment in a loud voice that I plan on getting that leak plugged some day...
Like Dave & George, I open the valve and pull the plug as I come into the dock. It's just part of the routine, ballast - center board - rudder - outboard. After it's on the trailer I pull up and let it drain (comment to the bass fisherman about the size of my livewell). If the boat is not centered properly I hop aboard and close the valve then back into the water to refloat and realign.
So when you open it at the dock and then head up the ramp the water doesn't come out the vent at first? I'm picturing the water spurting out the vent until enough has gone out the drain since the boat is tilted up in the front causing the weight of the water to head for the back of the tank. ??? Just got my boat so this is new to me.
never had a bit of trouble with that. The water comes out so fast below that not much has a chance of fighting the air current flowing into the little plug hole in the cabin. Remember as soon as the top of the ballast fill gets higher than the water line, it will start draining, so by the time the bottom of the boat is clear of the water, you've already purged GALLONS of water. If you're still uneasy, have someone else pull you out and you stand there with towels and a mop. You should wear a skirt and bonnet though.
