Don't those bodies of water "drain" rather than being "pumped down?" They're higher than sea level and end up working their way seaward.

In keyport our launch hours keep getting shorter, I am making my yearly fall pilgrimage up the hudson this weekend to Viking marina in peekskill ny. I think the yacht club launch is done around the end of the month.... REd
Went out today love fall sailing good wind nice wave to play on. Boat comes out late October early November most years.

We are getting out next Friday the 12th. The conservation authority is going to drop the level 10' or more for dock work.
Coincidentally it is Squeaky's last day of Chemo!
Thank God! She is doing great! We will celebrate on Saturday.

Hauled out the Thursday after Labor Day, won't be back in the water until Memorial Day. Mast is down, boat is in the barn. Experience is that Gales in September and later potentially cause some damage, and while there are great fall sailing days, schedules interfere.
This is our first year with our first sailboat. Haulout is today and I'm sad. I'm also a bit concerned since the water level has been so low lately. Our marina is near Toledo and the water has been down a lot since late August. So who knows, we might get down there today and find our boat in the mud.
When the weather gets to the point when I am spending more days worrying about the boat than sailing her...or the first week in November...at some point the guys in the Marina wrap t up for the year. I could leave her in every other season, but again...not worth the worry to me. Plus I have to rake leaves on the weekend anyway!
We suffer through the summer so really our best sailing season starts in October. We get wind and cooler temperatures. As frosting on the cake the numbers of small power boaters seems to significantly diminish as soon as the first cold front pushes through. Looking forward to some nice and quiet anchorages and to the Lighted Boat parades. I do envy your summer weather up North but now it is our time to gloat!

We are just getting started and getting boat all ship shape for our sailing season for sure,was real hot and lots of rain and thunder storms this past summer but now we will be stating the best sailing time here in Florida.
Getting ready for a 3 week crusie up along the west coast Fl and leaving from Charlotte harbor and going up as far as maybe tarpon Springs.

I took our boat out this weekend for these reasons:
• our schedule for the rest of the month got quite full (work, personal, projects — both boat and home)
• the boat's bottom was fouled badly
• the weather was very warm (took the boat out during the start of the Halloween snowstorm last year — 4 inches of snow in the driveway when I got back home)

Not for the season, since you can conceivably sail year round here, but when I decide to start the next project
As freakin' hot and windless as it is in the summer here, I plan to sail this fall/winter until it's so cold the snot freezes to my face. Even so, there are plenty of days in January and February that can reach the upper 40's-low 50's and I see people taking their sailboats out. . .
The "off season" here would seem to be though, from the end of November till the end of March.

A few years back and on a different sailing forum, one of the northern sailors got tired of the south bragging about sailing all year long. So on New Year's Day, he took his boat out. It had rained the day before and gotten a weee bit cooler overnight. But undeterred, he chipped ice off the running rigging and the dock lines and went out. Photographic proof was displayed including the ice on the dock lines prior to casting off.

I've always thought it inconsiderate at best for year round sailors to mention that fact to those who have to haul their boats.
I try to get the boat covered and winterized before the snow, usually mid to late November. We have to pull out by the end of the first weekend of November. Some people move their boats to a year round marina a couple miles away. I usually pull out in mid to late October, depending on the availability for borrowing a truck. If I had my own pickup, I'd pull out at the last minute, then trailer sail until the lake freezes.
It's out and home.
Mine is in the back yard. Oh the neighbors too. Had I placed my shed properly it might fit on my lot.
Took the dock out today with my dock mate. We plan to get it back in as soon as we can in the spring. I think we will be the first to get theirs out again next year.
