i sail the same dead sea hat you do and have a ninties's catalina 30. originally i wanted a tall rig too, saw a few overpriced dogs, wound up with a beautiful standard rig 91 and haven't looked back since. boats of this vintage are hard enough to find, most especially nice ones local enough to make sense. my advice is find a nice boat first and worry about the rig second, unless there is an over riding need for a tall rig. if you really need to know your answer try asking catalina. by the way, the walk-through stern started in '91 really is a major improvement.
