We are looking for a C30 MKIII and are not finding many from the middle '90s with the tall rig. I was told that sometime in the 90's Catalina stopped making the C30 with a tall rig. Does anyone know when? Perhaps more importantly, WHY?

i sail the same dead sea hat you do and have a ninties's catalina 30. originally i wanted a tall rig too, saw a few overpriced dogs, wound up with a beautiful standard rig 91 and haven't looked back since. boats of this vintage are hard enough to find, most especially nice ones local enough to make sense. my advice is find a nice boat first and worry about the rig second, unless there is an over riding need for a tall rig. if you really need to know your answer try asking catalina. by the way, the walk-through stern started in '91 really is a major improvement.
Trish, FYI, our 1996 MKIII is a Wing Keel, Tall Rig with a bowsprit. Just giving you a data point because it is not for sale.

Thanks to all. We found our boat -- 1990, tall rig, fin keel, well cared-for, and within sailing distance of home. Just got her home and now starting to tweak here and there to make her our own.
