Just wondering; mine is a tiller model. I saw photos of the 27 with wheel steering. What factors did Hunter use when they were building the 27's i.e.' 75-' 84 as to wheel or tiller ?

My '83 Hunter has a wheel. I also own a 28 foot wooden sailboat with a tiller. When a wheel is set-up correctly I'll take the wheel any day.

WHEEL MAKES IT SEEM A BIGGER BOAT THAN IT IS.
I HAVE AN 84 27 WITH A WHEEL. YOU CAN SET IT UP EITHER WAY VERY QUICKLY. THE WHEEL FOR SOME REASON JUST MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE A BIGGER BOAT. IT ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO TAKE OVER THE WHOLE STERN OF THE BOAT. HAVE THE WIFE AND KIDS DEAL WITH THE TACKING.

my 1975 has a wheel
it's kinda big, so you have to climb on the seats to get in front or behind it. but it is nice to hang onto when things get a little rough, like in 20kt winds & a 3 foot chop...

Hi, I have an opportunity to buy a 1982 Hunter 27 w/wheel steering and a shoal draft keel.It has a 1 cyl yanmar deisel, I was looking for any imput or advice you may have regarding the performance of this boat.I know yours is a year newer but I would appreciate any imput. Thank you!
